If you're looking for authentic Southern comfort food and genuine Southern hospitality, Grand Island Restaurant is a must-visit in New Orleans. From the moment you walk in, the friendly staff welcomes you like family, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a family reunion than a restaurant. Every meal tasted like it came straight from Momma's kitchen fresh, homemade, and cooked with care. It's the kind of food that brings back fond memories and leaves you looking forward to your next visit. Its convenient location next to Harrah's Casino Hotel made it an easy choice during our stay, and we found ourselves returning night after night because the food and service never disappointed. If you're in New Orleans and want a true taste of Southern hospitality with delicious homestyle cooking, Grand Island Restaurant deserves a spot on your itinerary. Two thumbs up! Highly recommended!
I visited during the NCSC 2026 conference and was looking forward to experiencing authentic Louisiana seafood. Unfortunately, my first impression wasn’t great. Even though the restaurant was fairly empty, I was seated in a back corner right next to the restroom. I politely asked if I could move, but my request was declined. The Redfish, however, was outstanding. I hope it was wild-caught because it was perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside, moist, flaky, and full of flavor. It was easily the highlight of my meal. The disappointment came with the French fries. There were a few spoiled potato pieces mixed in, which was surprising for a restaurant serving food of this quality. Small details like this can take away from an otherwise excellent dining experience. This place has great potential, but there is definitely room for improvement in both service and quality control.
Im from this city but I no longer live here, so anytime Im having seafood in New Orleans my expectations are high. I was basically raised by Gerber-crawfish baby food and a po-boy for a bottle. With all that being said, I was not that thrilled with this establishment; it could be because we came in at 9pm and they were close to closing but we were a big group fresh from driving into NOLA from Houston and we wanted something hot and fresh. I tried some of the shrimp and crawfish bags and we had to ask for potatoes to be added, becasue it only came with one lol. Anyway, long story short the oysters and the crawfish and shrimp were warm, and not poping hot, which was disappointing and it was seasoned but not enough to make me want to come back. However, the table seemed to really enjoy it, I was hard-pressed. Lastly, I decided to try something new and it was a cool spin on a Po-boy, it was called "Shrimp Caminada - Po-Boy" I must say the bread was the best bread I've had in some time. The po-boy was different or me and I appreciated the spin, however I wouldn't get it again lol Oh! snap, I added a star because that mac n cheese was soooo good. I should've gotten that as a main dish lol. Thats is the waiter was cool, and so was the manager esp in how he was able to handle my nephew. I prolly wont be back.
We have had the pleasure of visiting Grand Isle on several occasions, and it has become our preferred destination in New Orleans for exceptional fresh seafood, served in a relaxed, upscale, fishcamp-inspired setting. The establishment endeavors to create a "fancy fishing camp" within the city, harmoniously blending the unpretentious, fresh seafood culture of the coast with a refined New Orleans dining experience. The restaurant's walls are adorned with striking black and white photographs by Fonville Winans, who beautifully captured the essence and culture of Grand Isle during the 1920s and 1930s. On our first visit, we we sat at the Oyster Bar and were thoroughly impressed with the friendliness, candor, and humor of our "shucker," Will. This positive experience prompted us to return for dinner a couple more times, and after a subsequent meeting with sales and operations manager Amanda, we decided to book our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at the venue. We cannot adequately express our satisfaction with the food, ambiance, and service provided by Grand Isle Restaurant. We highly recommend this establishment and eagerly anticipate our next visit to New Orleans. Incidentally, the rehearsal dinner was absolutely perfect. Best Plate of food I’ve ever had in my life. No Cap. I went two years ago and I’m leaving another review because every so often I get a remembrance on my taste buds. That’s Fish and Crawfish Sauce… ooooweeeeeee. Crispy potato cake and the spinach. CLEARED!🤤 The mac was sharp 👌🏽 too. I did prefer another oyster spot over theirs but still nice. They were just too big for me. (newbie to oysters) 🦪 GO GO GO!
