One of the best meals I have had in a long time! The fish was cooked to perfection. The pecan sauce on top was amazing. The pecan pie was also one of the best I have had! We were very lucky to get a reservation the day of. Highly recommend planning to come here.
My husband and I celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary with a dinner at this wonderful restaurant. The atmosphere is very intimate and inviting in an old Victorian shotgun cottage in the Riverbend neighborhood. We ordered BBQ shrimp and Butternut Squash Shrimp Soup for appetizers. Both were amazing!! Then came our entrees. My husband had the Veal topped with Oysters and Mushrooms, and I had the Seafood Platter. Both meals were full of flavor and absolutely delicious. Our dessert selections were the Pecan Pie and the Banana Bread Pudding…both perfection! I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our dinner experience, and the very attentive professional staff at this little Jewel of a restaurant tucked in a quiet corner of an old New Orleans neighborhood with easy, safe parking just a few feet away. Dining at Brigtsen’s is an experience you don’t want to miss, whether you are visiting our city or you’re a native like us.
This is the place when you need to feel like you're are at an old friend's home having a great meal. And it doesn't hurt that this friend is an extraordinary chef. We ordered table bread which was nice and warm with soft butter. The "File Gumbo" was well balanced with flavor and seasoning. The "Cauliflower Bisque" was deceiving. It looked plain however one taste and I was convinced I can't trust my eyes. Their "Shrimp Etouffee" was very delicious as was the jalapeño cornbread that came with it. My wife had the "Roasted Pork Chop with Andouille Sweet Potato Hash & Blueberry Cane Vinegar Glaze". And yes it was exquisite! For dessert my wife had the "Lemon Blueberry Creme Brulee" which was delicious. I was going to have the same however our waiter kept talking up the "Pecan Pie" so much that I decided to prove him a liar. Well, he was not! I was not a fan of pecan pie until that night! They make their pecan pie eliminates all the things I dislike from other's. Next time I come here I will be getting a slice!
Reservations are highly recommended. We started with the BBQ Shrimp, which I recommend ordering the small loaf of French bread because you're going to want to soak up the delicious BBQ sauce with. The sauce is more like a broth. For entrees we had the "Seafood Platter" and the Gulf fish special -- both were excellent.
The very best pecan pie (5/5) I've had in NOLA. Oof it had crackly crisp pecans on top with a maply dark caramel and a perfect crust. The filling was also just the right amount of sweetness. Truly the highlight of the meal. The bisque (4/5) was excellent. The seafood sampler (3.5/5) was okay - the crawfish cornbread and the fish were good but the oysters were meh. I would just get the fish instead. Also staff is super sweet. Overall I'd recommend but definitely call to make a reservation.
