First night in New Orleans and we decided to try this popular restaurant. There were no lines because we got there just in time for the evening rush. It ended up being a great choice because the atmosphere and music gave us a good welcoming experience. It’s located right in the French Quarter so it’s a great location to feel like you’re dining and still part of the city streets. We sat by open doors overlooking the street which was perfect for people watching and soaking up the energy. of the city. Our server was helpful and gave us some good recommendations. The drinks and food were satisfying. It was exactly what we were looking for.

Went for Sunday brunch and the meal was excellent. The have bottomless mimosas which were fabulous and our waitress Aesha was very attentive refilling our champagne constantly and even sending some to go. The food was great, my Cobb salad was extra fancy with blackened shrimp and deviled eggs!

Kingfish 337 Chartres St I had arrived in New Orleans a day earlier, staying at the Crowne Plaza - Astor on Canal Street. During my five nights – here to attend the 2026 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival – I made a point to seek out French Quarter venues, including those on and near Frenchmen Street. I spent three evenings during last year’s Festival exploring this area, discovering jazz and food experiences in what I believe is the single finest street scene in the world dedicated to heritage jazz. Kingfish did not charge me a cover, and there was ample seating when I arrived on a Thursday night around 7 p.m., although it was close to full by the time I left an hour later. The building has an open-air front and the band occupies a raised platform near the windows and doors, ensuring that their music is available to all who draw near. I compliment Kingfish for its classy and informative website, with a note: the actual venue is relaxed and not at all fussy. The website may give the impression that the target audience are in the BMW set, but inside the vibe is more like a VW bus, circa 1970. And that’s a good thing! I ordered the Crawfish & Shrimp Etouffee (Louisiana crawfish, gulf shrimp, steamed rice, green onions $27), and it hit the spot. Neither too little a serving nor too much, the service was prompt and perfect, the seasonings were superb, and when the band began to play it was a little bit like heaven on Chartres Street.

We walked the French quarter looking for something to eat but so many places had long lines! We stopped to get our bearings and saw a beautiful black woman standing in the door of the Kingfish kitchen, which looked not busy, so we walked up! We got a table quickly and ordered our food! It was AMAZING! We had the Cadillac breakfast, the kingfish and grits, the New Orleans bbq shrimp and the kids Louisiana catfish strips! Beautiful restaurant, clean and quaint bathrooms, great atmosphere! 👍🏾👍🏾

I was skeptical walking in, as I own a Creole restaurant and have had some disappointing meals in the French Quarter. We stopped in for lunch on a cold Monday—31 degrees and only a few tables seated—but the quality of the experience far exceeded expectations. The appetizers were outstanding. The crab cake and maque choux were flavorful and well-balanced, and the crawfish bread was rich without being heavy—perfect for lunch. But the real surprise was the pork chop. Cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and impressive for a lunch service. It’s rare to find a dish executed that well midday. Thoughtful cooking, solid service, and food that clearly reflects pride in the craft. This place deserves attention—don’t sleep on it, even for lunch.
