Many of our American friends had recommended New Orleans to us, so this was our first visit. However, as Japanese travelers, we initially found the city, including its cuisine, so distinctive that we were not quite sure how to appreciate it. This restaurant completely changed the way we saw New Orleans and helped us fully understand why so many of our American friends had encouraged us to visit. I had the Shrimp Remoulade and Shrimp Creole, while my wife ordered the Duck and Andouille Gumbo and Crabmeat au Gratin. Before coming here, we had sometimes felt that New Orleans cuisine could be rather salty without always having the depth of flavor we expected. Every dish we had at this restaurant, however, was exceptional and remarkably refined. The flavors were deep yet precise, with a clean and pleasant finish. We truly enjoyed our lunch. I hesitated to include the following story, but I decided to share it because I think it reflects both the hospitality of this restaurant and the graciousness of the neighboring restaurant. We accidentally entered the restaurant next door wearing T-shirts and carrying a large camera, looking very much like stereotypical Japanese tourists. We probably should have realized from the exterior that it was a more formal establishment. Many of the guests in the dining room were elegantly dressed families, and we immediately felt that we had come to the wrong place. When we apologized to the staff, they kindly reassured us and escorted us to the dining room of this restaurant next door. Even then, however, we were still nervous. Our impeccably dressed server soon arrived at our table, and because we were already anxious about communicating in English, we were not sure what to expect. He quickly put us at ease. He made us laugh with just the right amount of humor while serving us with extraordinary courtesy and professionalism. We met many kind people throughout New Orleans, but I do not think we will ever forget the hospitality we experienced at this restaurant. New Orleans is a long way from Japan, but we sincerely hope to return someday.

Came in for a cocktail. They have a good choice of cocktails. Ended up going with a lower abv reverse Manhattan on the rocks. Bartenders were friendly and the drink was great

Galatoire’s Bar 33 did not disappoint, it’s more casual than the main dinning hall, but the meal and service were top tier. Our server Stephen was so great and helped me select a wonderful dish that I can’t stop thinking about. I had the perfectly prepared black drum fish. It was pan seared with a lemon caper sauce and it was delicious. I enjoyed my meal so much. I had never had gumbo before, it was so good I wish I had ordered the bigger portion instead of just the cup. When I visit NOLA again, this restaurant will be on my list of places to eat.

Everything about the restaurant was amazing. We are vacationing here and this was our first stop. Our server Thomas was so friendly. Our food was phenomenal, I dont know how rice makes a sauce an explosion of flavor but it does! The crab Maison I could eat for every meal! What a way to start our stay!
