A remarkable experience overall - a fun night if you do the tasting menu at a table. But …. Let me suggest to you that this is one of the very best bars in the city to have a cocktail and food. The drinks at this place are truly outstanding. The technical execution of the cocktails is flawless (meaning they know the craft and execute beautifully). There are some inspired house cocktails. And, sitting at this very comfortable bar, you can order as you like (à la carte) from the tasting menu. You can also get the best calamari you’ve had maybe ever - this delightful bar snack isn’t available at the tables so far as I know (nor would any sensible person try to add it to a quite filling ensemble). I have so many great options in this city (and in the other cities I travel to) for high end cocktails and food. And truly I tell you, this is one is the best such experiences I’ve had in the world.
Friday June 20th, 2026 A.D, The Kingsway staff was challenged mind, body and soul by a 16 top . It was a long, emotional day for our family as we held my grandmother’s funeral. She was a connoisseur of food and wine, so I can’t think of a better place to celebrate her and honor her memory. Our party of 16 showed up late, scattered, and hungry, with a two year old. We were not an easy table, but The Kingsway team rose to the challenge and completely blew us away. The Drinks & Wine Pairing * The Jade Dragon: I started with this smooth gin drink. It is probably one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in my life. * The Wine Pairing: James and Taylor have curated a beautiful wine menu. The pairing was so well-crafted, and every detail was thought out to enhance the meal. * The Favorites: The Washington Syrah, the Pinot Noir with the duck, and the Port with the coconut cloud sorbet were absolute perfection. Honestly, I loved every single wine. The Food * My Meal: I had the dumplings, pork belly, duck, and the coconut cloud sorbet for the grand finale. Everything was excellent, especially the duck and that sorbet. * The Tuna: I also tried a bite of the tuna, and the wine it was paired with was incredible. * For the Baby: My 2-year-old son loves ramen, so he had the cold chili crab noodles and annihilated it. The Service Our server, Galen, was incredibly patient. We bombarded him with questions. He answered every single one with grace and knowledge. James and Taylor have curated an exquisite wine list. James gave great descriptions of the wine. I have never had a sommelier be so accessible in describing the wine. And he was spot on! Everyone from the support staff, bartenders, and kitchen crew to the sommeliers and management made us feel genuinely welcome. I cannot compliment James, Taylor, Galen, and Alec enough. Thank you, Kingsway, for turning a heavy day into a beautiful experience. A great way to celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman. We will be back.
We did the multi course tasting menu. My dining partner likes her chili crab ramen nest and crispy shrimp. I had pork belly and short ribs--both were too sweet for my taste. Ditto for the honey glazed dinner role. My guest ordered ice tea which came in a white wine glass. Two glasses at $14 each? $28 for ice tea was rediculous. See photos for prentation and portion size.
We ordered one of everything on the menu and did the wine pairing — and you definitely should too. Every course was beautifully executed, balanced, and memorable. The pairing elevated the experience even more. Kingsway is an outstanding new addition to the New Orleans food scene, and we left genuinely impressed. Zero complaints, only excitement to return.
I wish I could give The Kingsway a 5 star review. There are so many things they got right. With a few tweaks, I think they could be the next best restaurant in New Orleans. The atmosphere top notch! You can tell so much thought went into this renovation. The crab and Brie soup- to die for! I would recommend going just for this, honestly! The service- every staff member we asked questions to had answers from the server to the buss person, which in my opinion, goes a long way. However, the ABC chicken was very dry and underwhelming. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and beautifully plated, but too small for a main course. The key lime pie was one of the best I have had, but there was a large chunk of lime pulp found in my slice. Takeaways: This place is stunning! I would highly recommend trying it out. The flavors and heart and soul of the food is there. Just needs a little fine tuning for the $$$.
