First visit to the famous Li'l Dizzy's and I can see why it is a NOLA institution. I had the daily special smothered okra with catfish with some Mac and cheese side and bread pudding on the side alongside a po boy and gumbo. My goodness all of it was delicious! Great fan of the bread pudding! Great service and atmosphere with that touch of New Orleans Creole hospitality! Definitely a fan!
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. Even though there was a wait to get in, it’s worth every second. They were very hospitable to the people waiting in line as well, providing water and plenty of fans to keep everyone cool in this heat/humidity. Even though there was a line, it moved very quickly. They seem to have their procedure for the line down to a science! Once we made it inside and our order was brought to us, it became very clear why there’s always a line. The food was PHENOMENAL. Seasoned perfectly. It’s no wonder Gordon Ramsey praises this place so highly. We walked around 30 mins in the heat to eat here. It was worth every step, every moment we had no shade, and every drop of sweat. It was THAT GOOD.
Lil Dizzy’s Cafe was a great stop while visiting New Orleans. We tried the Monday special, the red beans and rice, which had a really good flavor and tasted homemade. I do wish it had been served a little hotter temperature-wise, but the flavor itself was still solid. They had unfortunately run out of the mac and cheese, which was disappointing because we were really looking forward to trying it. The chicken, though, was absolutely delicious. It was crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Overall, it’s a cozy local spot with authentic New Orleans comfort food and is definitely worth checking out.
Lil Dizzy's Cafe absolutely delivered on comfort food. The fried chicken was phenomenal — crispy, flavorful, and perfectly juicy inside. The mac and cheese was just as impressive, rich and satisfying without being overdone. The potato salad was okay, nothing particularly memorable compared to the rest of the meal, but the whiskey sweet tea cocktail more than made up for it. Smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. The cornbread was also very good, especially when enjoyed warm. If you’re looking for soulful, satisfying New Orleans cooking in a laid-back spot, I’d highly recommend Lil Dizzy’s.
We visited Li’l Dizzy’s Café and knew right away we were in for something special. The line was long, the energy was great, and the hospitality felt like a warm welcome before we even sat down. The Seafood Gumbo was the standout for me. Rich, full of flavor, and loaded with shrimp and crab—every bite tasted fresh and authentic. Served simply, it somehow made the experience feel even more real. The Fried Chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right—crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Crab Cakes with crawfish sauce were another highlight, bringing that Louisiana seafood flavor you expect. The sides really complete the meal. The Candied Yams were some of the best I’ve had, the Mac and Cheese was creamy and rich, and the Greens had that perfect balance of smoky and savory. The staff handled a busy crowd with ease and kept everything moving while staying friendly and welcoming. This is a place worth slowing down and enjoying. If you’re in New Orleans, this is a must-stop.
