Description
Join a New Orleans Second Line Parade or Second Line Music Experience led by a former 'King' of the Treme neighborhood. These parades take place throughout the year, mostly on Sunday afternoons, in the French Quarter and neighborhoods citywide.
The events vary in size and tradition but always include a brass band, lively street dancing, and participants dressed in bright suits, sashes, hats, bonnets, parasols, and banners. This blend of courtly pomp and spontaneous block party energy progresses block by block.
Second lines are not tied to specific holidays or commemorations but are held simply to keep the tradition alive and celebrate community joy. Their origins date back to the 19th century fraternal societies and neighborhood groups.
