Meet your guide on the front steps of the home and begin your tour with a walk through of this stunning property. French Quarter Phantoms is honored to be the ONLY daily tour of the Garden District neighborhood that brings you INSIDE one of the dazzling mansions that make the neighborhood so famous (please note the inside of the house is not wheelchair accessible due to the historic nature of the home however the remainder of the tour is fully wheelchair accessible). Take a journey back to the 19th Century and begin your day at this stunning gem while also supporting New Orleans fine arts and music through the Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera. Built in 1859 as a private home and originally designed by famous New Orleans architect William Freret Jr. your morning will begin with a tour of the house and then continue on a leisurely stroll through the Garden District neighborhood of New Orleans. See the stomping ground of authors, poets, movie stars, artists, and sports legends such as Anne Rice, John Goodman, and Archie Manning, including the Benjamin Button House as well as many mysterious and loved fictional characters. Enjoy the towering southern live oak trees, magnificent crepe myrtles, and the stunning magnolias that some have said make walking tours through the Garden District neighborhood akin to walking through a fairy tale. Learn the deep and rich history of the area and how it fits into the overall story of New Orleans and the 'new money' Americans attempt to outdo the ancient splendor of the European French Quarter. Along with your Garden District walking tour, you will also get a chance to visit the oldest Municipal Cemetery in New Orleans, Lafayette #1, the site of filming for many famous movies and TV shows, including Interview with a Vampire and Double Jeopardy. Unfortunately the full Cemetery is closed to the public but we will take you to the gates to get a coveted glance inside and learn about New Orleans’ above-ground burial practices, and join us in some gossip about dead people.
