Description
Felicity Plantation, sister to St. Joseph Plantation, is a well-preserved example of mid-19th century Louisiana architecture along the Mississippi River. Built between 1844 and 1847, the home combines Greek Revival style with Creole influences.
Purchased by the Waguespack family in 1877, Felicity and St. Joseph Plantations became a single 2,500-acre sugarcane operation by 1901. The plantation continues to grow and harvest sugarcane today, maintaining its role as both a working farm and historic site.
The guided tour provides insight into the lives of the people tied to the estate, including enslaved individuals and post-emancipation workers. It addresses the history of labor, resilience, and the social dynamics that shaped life on River Road.
