Description
This three-hour city sightseeing tour covers New Orleans neighborhoods from three centuries, offering opportunities to experience the city's history and beauty at a walking pace.
The tour begins at Jackson Square with an introduction to French Quarter history, followed by a drive along Esplanade Avenue, a historic French street lined with Victorian houses leading to City Park.
Before City Park, visit St. Louis Cemetery #3 to learn about New Orleans' above-ground burial system and jazz funeral traditions. Cross Bayou St. John into City Park, where you can purchase café au lait and beignets at Café du Monde or explore the park's museums, sculpture gardens, lagoons, and centuries-old live oaks.
Return to the bus and travel along the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, passing a post-Katrina pumping station, seafood restaurants, a marina, and a historic lighthouse with views of the 24-mile Causeway Bridge. Lake Pontchartrain is one of North America's largest brackish estuaries.
The tour continues on St. Charles Avenue, home to Audubon Park and notable mansions, churches, and universities like Loyola and Tulane. The tour concludes with a guided stroll in the Garden District, featuring well-preserved architecture and stories of past residents.
