First, let me give a HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Jamyia! Upon arrival she first thanked me for being a titanium member and made sure that everything was added to my reservation and she was so informative and just welcoming!! We stayed here for a birthday gathering and I must say it was a great location, the atmosphere was amazing, the staff in the M Club was very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure that your breakfast and dinner as well as any takeouts we're taking care of! Would definitely recommend this Marriott to other family and friends.
I stayed at the Marriott New Orleans while attending the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) Conference, and overall, I would say my stay was pleasurable and the hotel was nice. There were a few things that definitely had me giving a little side-eye, though. When I first checked in, I was told that I had been assigned a connecting room. Now, let me be clear, I was not interested in that. My colleagues were staying at a different hotel, and the one colleague who was staying at the Marriott wasn't checking in until the next day. So, there was no reason for me to have a connecting room, and honestly, for safety reasons, I just wasn't comfortable with it. Thankfully, the front desk staff was accommodating and checked for another room. I was able to get a different room, which I appreciated. The room itself was nice, and I had two double beds. My only complaint about the room was the lack of a full-length mirror. Ladies, you know the struggle! Now, let's talk about the room rate, because THIS is where I had an issue. The conference rate was $169 per night, but I was charged $199 per night. That was a discrepancy of about $30 per night, which added up to more than $100 over the course of my stay. I did contact the hotel after receiving my bill because, ummm… we're going to need to reconcile those numbers. Now, I will say that checkout was very busy,.to say the least... There were over 1,600 people attending the conference, plus another conference happening at the hotel at the same time. So, needless to say, it was a BUSY week at the Marriott. I understand that things can get hectic, but I still expected the conference rate to be reflected correctly on my bill. Another thing that caught my attention was the $500 incidental hold placed on my credit card at check-in. I understand that hotels place a hold for incidentals, and I know it's temporary and typically released after checkout. However, I have stayed at Marriott properties before, as I am Marriott Bonvoy member and I am used to seeing an incidental hold closer to $200–$250 for the stay. A $500 hold felt excessive to me, that's a pretty significant amount of money to have tied up temporarily, even if it is eventually released. That part was definitely not tasteful to me. Now, on the positive side, there were definitely things I enjoyed! The hotel had a Starbucks, which is always a plus. They also had a bar and two restaurants, so there were options right there in the hotel. I stopped by the bar one evening and had a drink and some bar bites, a Turkey BLT. My colleague ordered wings, and everything was pretty good. The bar area was clean, and the staff was friendly and hospitable. The continental breakfast served during the conference was good, and as a tea person, I was VERY happy with the tea selection. They had Teavana, which I love, so that was definitely a win for me.One feature I actually appreciated was the elevator security system. You needed your room key to access the elevators, and once you were in the lobby, you tapped your key card and the elevator took you directly to your floor. There were no buttons inside the elevator, so you couldn't just hop on and start riding around to different floors. Some people complained about this because it meant you couldn't make an extra stop on another floor, but honestly, I understood the concept. With so many people coming and going during a conference, I thought it was a good safety feature. Once you were on your floor, you could take the elevator back to the lobby or access the conference areas as needed. For me, it wasn't an issue. Housekeeping was also good. I did have to call for extra towels one day, and they brought them up without a problem. Overall, I would say the Marriott New Orleans was a nice and comfortable place to stay for the conference. The staff was nice and hospitable, the hotel was clean, the amenities were convenient, and I enjoyed my overall experience.
Riverview: I visited last year and had a blast. I love being able to enjoy hotel amenities on-site. Guess what? I am returning with my classmates for our 30th Reunion. Our group housing coordinator, Bianca, has been: commuincative; thoughtful and reliable throughout the process. Service like this? Looks like I will become a Marriott girl. I love NOLA. Thanks.
Clean rooms. Great location. Helpful staff. Only thing I would change is to be allow to chrome cast, they do not have many TV channels or streaming options. The gym was also small, no space for mat work.
